2023: In the name of productivity and self-growth

I am recording some key decisions that I have made this year that has drastically shaped me and continue my journey towards self-growth and productivity:
  • I got Stoic Philosophy to guide me
I believe that people in Greece at one point in time were better at using their minds, the Ancient Greece were really a thriving culture. Which means more people had the ability work on their minds instead of living in an overworked and underpaid society that we are living in today. I truly believe that Stoicism is very applicable at this day and age, especially when my mind gets drifted into a bad place, and at times not be aware of it because we live in an age alongside the internet. However, thanks to the internet, I found stoicism to be a very practical way to define and rebuild my principles. I'm using stoic philosophy to reason my way to get out of my bad habits and do away with bad thought patterns. Living life with virtues, courage and temperance feels like a good change for me. After all, deep inside me I know I just want to be as wholesome, as I can be as a man.
  • I've taken deleted social media off my phone to make more time for my career and lifestyle
I've come to terms that browsing social media in a mindless way is not worth my precious time. It is not that I am not interested in the lives of friends around me, I specifically go check Facebook and Instagram on people that matter to me from time to time to get updates from them. I honestly find it more meaningful to catch up people real time face to face.

  • I've accumulated $1500 in training gains, but $5000 in trading losses.
Trading is a risky activity and risk management is essential. Things can get dangerous when there is no stop loss calculation. Got to bear in mind that stop losses are essential to every trade. I've decided to take a break from trading, and just put 1.4k into S&P every month instead for now.
  • I've decided to purchase a car left with 7 months of COE with the extra cash that I had
I had the opportunity to experience driving and travelling to places around Singapore with a car as I hustle alongside with it. After 1.5 months, I realized that the costs of owning a car still doesn't cover the hustling I do with the car, and am considering dropping my ownership of the car. Because expenses easily adds up to $800. Honestly, The cost of the car plus expenses takes away more than half of my salary. But hey, I might as well tide out this 5.5 months and do something useful with it.

  • I have decided to climb the cooperate ladder

I've noticed that I am in a role that has a higher salary than most in the markets that can potentially reach the income level that I set out to achieve ($8000). I believe that as long as continue to do my part towards building the team and do the work as a datacenter technician in Amazon, I am going to achieve my life goals of owning a condominium in Singapore one day.
